Before Michael was ready to head for Akala Island, he decided to make a few stops along the way. First Michael stopped by at the Berry Fields where he found 2 Persim Berries by a berry tree (+ an Oran Berry), which he showed the old gentlemen at the Berry Fields whom he met before. He thanked Michael for bringing back a Persim Berry as promised then gave Michael a Sitrus Berry for finishing a step of being a Berry Master. Next Michael helped in finding an old gentleman’s lost Alolan Meowth and bringing it back to him. Lastly Michael went back to visit Hau’oli Cemetery where he saw a woman and a Machamp visiting a grave. After hearing what the woman had spoken to the grave + hearing a loud unhappy Machamp that was very sad, Michael learned of the woman’s departed husband who was also Machamp’s trainer. Michael felt so sorry for what the woman and Machamp must’ve gone through ever since the husband passed away in an accident, which was explained to Michael. Although Michael didn’t like to hear that the accident was caused by someone who was also a husband and has a young wife, which made Michael wonder about it a little. The woman thanked Michael for letting her go on with her words and gave Michael her departed husband’s Technical Machine for Fling. Michael hopes for the woman and Machamp to be well and live out their good lives for the departed husband as they all departed from the cemetery. Michael was now heading for Big Wave Beach when he met Samson Oak (his game counterpart) who recognized Michael’s island challenge amulet + his Normal-Type and Fighting-Type Z-Crystals. He then asked Michael if he cleared the trial of Illma’s game counterpart and battled Kahuna Hala’s game counterpart, which Michael confirms. As Michael and the game counterpart of Samson Oak introduced themselves to each other, Michael learned of his research on Totem Pokemon.
After Samson Oak's game counterpart asked Michael if he was currently collecting Totem Stickers which Michael confirms, he explained if Michael can collect 20 Totem Stickers then Michael can receive a Totem-sized Alolan Raticate which Michael made reminisce on the one he faced at Verdant Cavern. Michael was reluctant at first but said that he’ll think about it for now while continuing to collect Totem Stickers as Samson Oak’s game counterpart also informs Michael he can find him at Heahea Beach on Akala Island. After Samson Oak’s game counterpart has left, Michael arrives at Big Wave Beach and meets with Hau’s game counterpart and the woman that he met before at that beach. After informing the woman that they managed to defeat Kahuna Hala’s game counterpart, both Michael and Hau’s game counterpart were all set to head for Akala Island by trying out Mantine Surfing. As Michael sets off riding on a Mantine out into sea, he begins to practice surfing waves with Mantine to pass some lessons and make sure that he can handle Mantine Surfing. At the end, Michael manages to pass his lessons and learns that his destination is dead ahead so he tries to pull off some good moves with Mantine during their trip while also starting to enjoy Mantine Surfing. Despite numerous bumping into Water-Type Pokemon, Michael has done a few good aerial movements while seeing that the trip was finished as he has arrived at Heahea Beach on Akala Island + Hau’s game counterpart has also arrived there from his Mantine Surfing.
Finally arriving on Akala Island, Hau’s game counterpart and Michael thanked the Mantine for their fun surfing trip as Hau’s game counterpart told Michael to meet up with him in Heahea City to find Lillie's and Professor Kukui’s game counterparts. Michael had a chat with a swimmer about his Mantine Surfing and Michael can agree with him that he’ll never forget that trip that he tried out. Michael met up with Samson Oak’s game counterpart to inform him while currently having 16 Totem Stickers collected, he’s not sure about accepting a Totem-sized Pokemon yet but Samson Oak’s game counterpart explains that as long as Michael manages to collect up to 20 Totem Stickers, he can come back anytime to receive it whenever he’s ready for it, which Michael understands. Michael then finds a bottle by the water with a note and a Heart Scale inside and after reading the note, he decides to hold onto it in case he finds the person to deliver the note to. Meeting up with Hau’s game counterpart in Heahea City, they found Lillie's and Professor Kukui’s game counterparts arriving from their boat. Professor Kukui’s game counterpart asked them how their Mantine Surfing was, which they answered was a great trip and so much fun when they’ve learned how to do it, which Professor Kukui’s game counterpart was very happy to hear about. Afterwards 2 people came by to greet them then introduced themselves as the Kahuna of Akala Island, Olivia (her game counterpart), and one of Akala Island’s captains, Mallow (her game counterpart). After chatting with some of each other, Michael can look forward when he’s ready to face the game counterpart of Kahuna Olivia and also keeping in mind on what kind of trial of the game counterpart of Mallow’s is gonna be like. After the game counterparts of Mallow and Kahuna Olivia had left, Professor Kukui’s game counterpart informs Hau’s game counterpart and Michael about Akala Island having 3 trials for them to face and they can get started by heading through Route 4 to arrive in Paniola Town. Michael then thanked Professor Kukui’s game counterpart for letting them know while Hau’s game counterpart explains that he’ll head straight for the Pokemon Center before setting off for Paniola Town and Michael decides to do the same, Lillie’s game counterpart decides to do a little shopping before she sets off for the “ruins” with Nebby. Although everyone had left, it didn’t take long for Michael to meet up with Lillie’s game counterpart. Michael then asks her if she was still doing her shopping which she was when Nebby couldn’t sit still as she explains that Nebby might be interested in visiting the Ruins of Life (which were the “ruins” she was talking about). Lillie’s game counterpart explains to Michael that those ruins are sacred to Akala’s island guardian, Tapu Lele, which made Michael learn about another island guardian just like Tapu Koko. She asks Michael if he’d like to come along with her and Nebby when they’re visiting the ruins since Nebby has taken a liking to him, which Michael confirms that he can.
Lillie's game counterpart then informs Michael that she’ll be meeting up with someone important to her at Tide Song Hotel which Michael commented that he’ll meet up with her there a little later. Before she heads to the hotel, she warns Michael to watch out for a group of bad guys called Team Skull, which Michael can see that she knows about them and explains how he had to deal with them before. As Michael was heading to the hotel himself, he met 2 trainers named Dexio and Sina, they’ve already learned that Michael is doing the island challenge by seeing his island challenge amulet. After a brief chat, Sina asks Michael if he wants to test his skills with her in a battle, which Michael answered yes. At the end, Michael emerged victorious with Rockruff and Torracat against Sina’s Pokemon which led to Trumbeak and Cha (Michael’s Hawlucha) earning enough Exp. Points to level up (thanks to Rockruff). Dexio and Sina can see that Michael and his team have grown closer as a team from the island challenge, which Michael agreed with then they’ve helped recover Michael’s Pokemon + gave him a Full Restore. Before Dexio and Sina had left, they hoped for Michael to continue to grow strong with his Pokemon when he’s continuing with his island challenge. Arriving at Tide Song Hotel, Michael finds the person to deliver the note and Heart Scale to, a Corsola trainer. She gave Michael her Heart Scale as thanks for finding her note.
Michael took an elevator to another floor where he looked around a few guest rooms which lead to collecting another Totem Sticker and overhearing someone talking a little mysteriously (unbeknownst to Michael, it was the game counterpart of Colress). After some playtime with a Corsola, Michael probably shouldn’t have disturbed a girl and her Pokemon who chased him out of their room then disappeared out of nowhere but not before an Oran Berry was mysteriously placed into Michael’s hand. Michael then kindly helped an elderly gentleman by searching for his 3 long-time friends around Heahea City and made them known to meet him at Tide Song Hotel and as a group of friends were reunited, the elderly gentleman gave Michael a Revival Herb as thanks for his help. While Michael was searching for the elderly gentleman’s friends, he managed to collect up to 21 Totem Stickers which resulted in Samson Oak’s game counterpart contacting Michael from Rotom Dex already learning about his collecting of 20 Totem Stickers and suggested to Michael to come to see him soon but Michael said he’ll come by later on when he’s ready to have a Totem-sized Pokemon on his team. Arriving at Heahea City’s Pokemon Center and enjoying Pokemon Refresh activities with his Pokemon Friends, Michael can look forward to what he’ll be experiencing on Akala Island.
