UM40's Documentation ("Plot")
The young trial-goer had decided to make some stops before getting ready for his Poni Island Grand Trial. Allowing Bewear to defeat 1 wild Pokemon resulted in it gaining enough Exp. Points to level up (and learn a new move). Michael sets off from Poni Island to Melemele Island via Mantine Surfing and was highly fascinated to learn from his arrival that he managed to pull off a new record in its Master Course, resulting in becoming a new champ in the Poni Beach Surf Spot and got informed to stop by the Surf Association in Heahea City on Akala Island as the young trial-goer has gotten into all 4 top spots of the Alola region’s Mantine Surfing. As Michael feels proud for all of his hard-worked accomplishments in Mantine Surfing, he made a small stop to Hau’oli City’s shopping mall only to end up dirtying a fresh clean floor that a janitor had just cleaned which made said janitor very mad but the young trial-goer accepted to help make up for it by helping with the cleaning process alongside his Alolan Grimer, which turned out okay at the end, although the janitor was mad at Michael for his mess, he still appreciated his help then gave him the Technical Machine for Round. Michael decided to make a small visit to the Trainers’ School which may not have been a good idea since he ended up having to help a little girl and her Drifloon with 7 mysteries that made the Trainers’ School a little spooky but at the end, all 7 mysteries were cleared which were all scary at first then not scary after logical explanations were revealed, Michael’s Poipole defeating a young athlete’s Growlithe and 2 wild Ghost-Type Pokemon (a Gastly and a Drifloon) resulted in it gaining enough Exp. Points to level up + it got to try out the Bug-Type Z-Move: Savage Spin-Out, for the first time. Although Michael didn’t mind accepting Wise Glasses from the little girl, her and her Drifloon disappearing while Michael was speaking to the Trainers’ School’s Security Officer was a little creepy. A few extra stops (while using one of his Roto Stealths) led to seeing a small group of wild Finneon showing a beautiful glow from their wings in the nighttime, taking a photo of a wild Dugtrio at Kala’e Bay, and informing an elder lady in Iki Town about a letter found at Kala’e Bay. When Michael was passing by his own house, he decided to make a small stop there to see his mom and her Meowth who were happy to see him. As Michael only informed his mom about how far he is in his island challenge, she’s happy to know that her son has been doing great as a trial-goer and she’ll look forward to when he’s finished with his island challenge so she can hear much about her son’s journey. The young trial-goer has decided to stop by the Ferry Terminal to reach his next stop, Akala Island. After his Rotom Dex helped someone fix a problem with a vending machine (which gave him a Fresh Water), Michael hopped on a ferry and arrived at Heahea City. Arriving at the Surf Association, Michael meets the boss of that association who congratulates the young trial-goer for clearing all 4 of Alola’s Surf Spots. Michael felt very proud for getting good at Mantine Surfing, which also allowed him to enjoy traveling from island to island with it. The Surf Association Boss has decided to present a Pokemon to Michael, which is a Pikachu that knows Surf, the young trial-goer got really surprised from what he was just informed.
The Surf Association Boss presented Pikachu’s PokeBall to Michael as he hopes to make it one of his partners, which the young trial-goer understands and happily accepts the popular Electric-Type Pokemon from the Kanto region that can use a unique Water-Type move although he had to unfortunately send his Ultra Beast Poipole into a PC Box for his new Electric-Type Pokemon friend to be added to his party. As Michael kindly gave his thanks to the Surf Association Boss, he informed the young trial-goer about something to try out in Mantine Surfing involving spinning in all usual directions as he and his own unique Pikachu (that can use a flying-type move, Fly) shall be cheering Michael on to continue doing great in Mantine Surfing. The young trial-goer made a quick stop to the Hano Beach Resort where he met up with the famous Pikachu, Chuuster and its trainer. As Michael happily showed them that now has his own Pikachu, Chuuster’s trainer was very kind to tutor the Volt Tackle move for it as Michael’s Pikachu has learned the special move needed for the Pikanium Z. A small stroll around Hano Beach led to the young trial-goer learning about a mistake he might’ve caused last time he was there because he heard from a swimmer that a Pyukumuku named Mukieo had lost a Pyukumuku friend named Mukiet who was chucked into the sea by a part-time Pyukumuku chucker which sounded familiar to Michael. At the end, Michael did managed to find Mukiet elsewhere on Hano Beach and reunited it with Mukieo then said swimmer gave Michael a Big Pearl as thanks but unfortunately for Mukieo, a young boy had to chuck Mukiet into the sea, which left the young trial-goer a little bewildered.
Arriving at Royal Avenue, Michael entered the Battle Royal Dome and finished his registration in the Battle Royal’s Hyper Rank and his 3 chosen Pokemon were Incineroar, Eevee, and Bewear as the young trial-goer then stepped into the ring to begin his participation. It was a little unfortunate for Eevee and Bewear who were both defeated after battling a little but once again thanks to his partner Incineroar’s hard work that Michael emerged victorious as he then confirmed to his Rotom Dex to have the entire battle saved in a Battle Video.
As the receptionist congratulates Michael on his victory, she gives the young trial-goer the Battle Points that he earns and confirms to Michael that he can be registered in the Master Rank the next time he participates, which he shall look forward to. Since he was near a Pokemon Storage System, the young trial-goer decided to send his Eevee and Bewear into his PC Box for some rest at Poke Pelago. After purchasing 2 Dry Malasadas for Incineroar and Pikachu at Royal Avenue’s Malasada Shop, Michael headed back to Poni Island via Charizard Glide to begin training with his very own Pikachu. Using one of his Roto Exp. Points, Michael and his Pikachu battle wild Pokemon in the Poni Wilds to gain enough extra Exp. Points for Pikachu to level up twice and learn a new move (Thunderbolt). At Seafolk Village’s Pokemon Center, Michael’s Pikachu was recovered, Hyper Potions were purchased, and some less and highly valuable items were sold at the PokeMart. Michael cared for his Pikachu within their Pokemon Refresh activity and also became a little impressed with a Gold Bottle Cap that his Pikachu had but he just chose to hold onto it for good luck, the young trial-goer then spoke to his Pikachu about how he shall be looking forward to continuing training with it but they can rest up for now. Michael still can’t stop pondering on how proud he was to have earned all 4 top spots in Alola’s Mantine Surfing, which came from some practicing in the beginning and mastering many surfing moves while enjoying the rides across the waves, it all ended up becoming a good result of receiving a Pokemon friend that’s a popular Electric-Type Pokemon from the region where he used to live + it can even use Surf, which is a Water-Type move that makes it very unique. Michael asked his Rotom Dex to switch on the Battle Video of his recent victory in the Battle Royal’s Hyper Rank so he may watch it with his Pikachu. After said Battle Video was finished, Michael told his Pikachu that he would like to battle alongside with it against tough opponents like the ones in the Battle Royal, which is why he’ll make sure that his Pikachu is highly-leveled and refreshed up for a chance to participate with him in the upcoming Poni Island Grand Trial.

Answer: Surf
Lesson Notes: Before the events of UM40, Michael Lettman first thought that he could’ve allowed Alolan Michael to search for a Pichu (or Pikachu) as his 2nd Pokemon friend during UM02 then waited until UM12 to catch a Pikipek but (as of UM40) he was very happy for Alolan Michael enjoying Mantine Surf which earned him a Pikachu Variant. “Off-Screen” Necessary Saving Activities: Other than collecting PokeBeans at Poke Pelago, Michael Lettman shall allow Alolan Michael to take care of training with his Pikachu so that it can be leveled up enough for the events of UM41.
